There are so many Social Media Platforms on the Internet today it is a wonder any of us connect at all. Having said that, there are a few that deserve our attention. Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube are the ones that most people actually use.

Every size below is what the platform itself asks for as of September 2026. They change, so we check them again on every job rather than working from a chart.

Facebook

Current Facebook image sizes, the most used and seen:

• Profile picture: upload 320 x 320, shown as a circle
• Page cover photo: 851 x 315, and the middle 640 x 312 is all that survives on a phone
• Feed post: 1080 x 1350 (portrait, best reach) or 1200 x 630 (landscape link preview)
• Group cover: 1640 x 856
• Ad image: same as the feed post, 1080 x 1350 or 1080 x 1080
• Stories and Reels: 1080 x 1920
• Feed video: 1080 x 1080 (square) or 1080 x 1350 (portrait)
• Maximum video length: 240 minutes

Instagram

Current Instagram image sizes, the most used and seen:

• Profile picture: upload 320 x 320, shown as a circle
• Feed post: 1080 x 1350 (portrait, the default and the best performing), 1080 x 1080 (square), 1080 x 566 (landscape)
• Stories: 1080 x 1920
• Reels: 1080 x 1920, with the cover frame at the same size
• Profile grid crop: 1080 x 1350 art needs its subject safe inside the centre square
• Ads: 1080 x 1350 (portrait) or 1080 x 1080 (square)
• Maximum Reel length: 3 minutes. IGTV no longer exists, it folded into Reels

X, formerly Twitter

Current X image sizes, the most used and seen:

• Profile picture: 400 x 400, shown as a circle
• Header: 1500 x 500
• Post image: 1600 x 900 (landscape) or 1080 x 1080 (square)
• Link card image: 1200 x 628
• Video: 1280 x 720 (landscape), 1080 x 1080 (square), 720 x 1280 (vertical)
• Maximum video length: 2 minutes 20 seconds on a free account, longer on a paid one

YouTube

Current YouTube image sizes, the most used and seen:

• Channel banner: 2560 x 1440, with everything that must be read kept inside the middle 1546 x 423
• Channel profile picture: 800 x 800, shown as a circle
• Video thumbnail: 1280 x 720, under 2 MB
• Standard video: 1920 x 1080
• Shorts: 1080 x 1920, up to 3 minutes, and the thumbnail is a frame of the video
• Display ads: 300 x 250
• Non-skippable video ads: up to 3 minutes, 30 seconds recommended
